The LPIG Charity Fund is off and running for 2009-2010. We have several events in the planning stages and we are looking for some volunteers to assist. Listed below are events that we are planning on doing:
- Holiday Meal Program – Thanksgiving
- Holiday Meal Program – Christmas
- Santa at the Station (December 19)
- Holiday Adopt a Family (looking at adopting 2 families)
- LPD vs. LFD Charity Basketball Game
- Purchasing and putting together a piece of playground equipment at a park that is in need of one. (Next Spring)
In addition to these events we are looking at accepting donations for lightly used clothing, toys, etc… If you have anything that is in VERY good condition, please let myself, Dawn McGinnis, or John Unfred know. If you would like to just purchase toys, clothing, etc for donation, we will also accept those. The Charity is a 501 c 3 non-profit organization and all donations are tax deductible.
We are in the developmental stages of establishing a Taxi Voucher Program, Hotel Room Voucher Program, and Tow Voucher Program. If you have any ideas or would like to assist in the development of these programs please let me know. All vouchers will be kept with the patrol sergeants and will need their approval before issuing one. (More to come on these programs)
Lastly, we are putting together an Emergency Needs Program where volunteers will come out at anytime day or night and help someone in need. An example of this would be where an elderly widow who had her door kicked in during a burglary and has no one to help her secure her residence. A volunteer(s) would come out and help secure her residence for her. The Charity will be purchasing the items to help do this (plywood, doors, etc). You would just have to bring your own tools to complete the job. What we are looking at doing is establishing a list of volunteers to call anytime of the day or night to complete the job. If you are interested in being on this list, please email me and let me know what skills you have to help complete the job and a phone number to best reach you at.
Remember that all the events that we do for the community makes us look better to them and the City Council. This will help us out tremendously when the council has to approve a contract. Thanks in advance for your help with these events.

Halloween a great success! - LPD Neighborhood Patrol Officers along with swing shift officers passed out over 600 candy bars to children in every patrol district tonight for Halloween. The children and their parents were exited and great contacts were made between the police department and the community tonight. The Lakewood Police Independent Guild Charity donated all of the candy and will double the amount next year as this was such a success.
